Ana's Cottage is an unusually well-appointed and distinctive custom home at the Highland Woods development (video) in West Elgin. It was built by John Hall Homes as one of the models in the Gallery of Homes of the Home Builders Association of Greater Fox Valley.

Joe Zekas and John Hall Jr's look at the Fox River Valley from the comfort of John's Corvette continues with a drive through River's Edge in St Charles and stop at one of John's custom homes, priced in the mid-$600s. (The home has since sold.)

John Hall Jr grew up in the Fox River Valley and in his father's homebuilding business, which he and his brother Joshua now own. As a three-time President of the Home Builders Association of Greater Fox Valley, John is an outstanding guide to how life's lived in the St Charles and West Elgin areas, where he's currently building custom homes.

Liz Mallin is a Sycamore resident and also the sales manager at Shodeen Residential's Reston Ponds development.

Join Liz for a walk through a furnished ranch model at Reston Ponds, where Phase IV grand opening prices range from just under $200,000 to the $270s.

Phase IV of Reston Ponds, comprising 182 home sites, is all that remains available for sale in this large planned development that's walking distance from Sycamore's historic downtown.

Patrick Blaszo, sales manager for Montalbano Homes, shows Chuck Gekas around a Fairfax model home at The Point at Gleneagle Trails, a new community in south suburban Matteson.

Prices at Gleneagle Trails have been rolled back, so that the base price for townhomes now starts at $150,000; single-family homes now start in the $190s. Buyers can choose from nine single-family floor plans and five townhomes floor plans.

One of the reasons I enjoy visiting with Weiss Development's Helen Weiss is that I learn a bit about consumers' changing perception of their needs and how builders are responding to them. You'll see some of that in the above video walk-through of a new furnished model, and in the video linked below.

Lincolnshire Place's current offerings are priced from the $370s to just shy of $500K, after significant price reductions.

There's also a furnished model for sale at Lincolnshire Place (video) for $469,000 plus the cost of the furnishings.

Beechen & Dill's Misty Ridge community in Romeoville, Illinois, features a park area, a playground, and soccer fields, and is complemented by new elementary and middle schools. Misty Ridge's custom-built homes start in the $230s, says Jon Krueger of Beechen & Dill.

Watch Jon tick off the advantages he sees in Misty Ridge and in Romeoville and see whether you agree that Romeoville is the place to live in the southwestern suburbs. You can tour a model home at Misty Ridge in this video at YouTube.

The 180,000 square-foot Mallinckrodt College building has been a fixture in Wilmette and the North Shore for almost a century. It stands on 14 acres of park space near Lake Michigan and is just a short walk or bus ride away from Wilmette's shops and restaurants and the Metra's rail line into Chicago. In 2005, the building was converted to a condo and senior (62-plus) living development, but many of its historic details and spaces remain intact.

If you've always wanted to live in a former chapel, the space pictured in the video is still available for sale, offering 2 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths in its vaulted space. The price is $525,000.

We've made a number of visits to Union Row Townhomes, but have never been inside an E-tier unit, the largest in the project. Union Row's completed, upgraded E units were among the very few remaining for sale when Joe Zekas paid Union Row a visit last week.

The four-bedroom / four-bath townhome Joe and project manager Zev Salomon tour here is priced at $499,900. It's the same unit from which they were able to take in a spectacular view of downtown Chicago, posted here last Friday.

There were still two units, both priced just under $500k, available for sale at Union Row Townhomes when I shot the above video last week.

Sales at the project had been stagnant for much of last year but accelerated earlier this year when developer Belgravia Group slashed prices by 30 percent.

Yesterday Belgravia alerted us that the final two units were under contract.

See the comments to this post at ChicagoNow for an illustration of how real estate brokers sometimes totally misunderstand a development’s location.

Last week Joe Zekas joined Jameson agents Lindsey Delrahim and Ami Bumia on a tour of furnished models at Silver Tower, a new-construction high-rise at 303 W Ohio St in River North.

Since Jameson took over sales at Silver Tower and announced price cuts on all available units, buyers have signed contracts and closed on dozens of homes. Condos at Silver Tower currently range from the $230s for a one-bedroom / one-bath to the $680s for a three-bedroom / 2.5-bath.
